Project 2025 is a conservative, hard right political initiative determined to reshape the federal government of the United States that will consolidate executive power in favor of extremist right-wing policies. The plan was published in 2023 by the Heritage Foundation in anticipation of Trump winning the 2024 presidential election. The goal of this project is to give the president total power of the executive branch, dismantle government bureaucracy, and to implement Christian nationalism throughout the US with no more separation of church and state. This is an authoritarian agenda that undermines the rule of law and the Constitution, eliminates social services, DEI initiatives, and aims to deploy the US Armed Forces for domestic law enforcement. Many of the authors of this project worked in Trump's first administration and are known hard right conservatives with very authoritarian, nationalist, and racist ideologies.
Project 2025 is an extremist, 900-page manifesto/policy agenda that includes a plan to recruit, train, and place loyalists and ideologues into the government who would replace up to 50,000 non-political civil servants. This project is a direct threat to democratic norms and aims to implement an authoritarian theocracy in place of our democratic republic.
Thanks to the Supreme Court's Citizens United decision in 2010 that allowed for massive amounts of money to be poured into our elections, and thanks to the Supreme Court's decision giving immunity to the president if he breaks the law, without consequences, we now have a government that will have more opportunities for corruption that will exceed any level of corruption this country has ever seen.
Key aspects of Project 2025:
"Mandate for Leadership": A 900+ page policy playbook outlining detailed recommendations for restructuring the executive branch and implementing conservative policies across all federal agencies.
Focus on the First 180 Days: It emphasizes a rapid implementation of policy changes in the initial months of a new administration.
Personnel Database & Training: Project 2025 also includes a database of potential personnel and training programs to ensure a smooth transition and staffing of key positions with individuals aligned with the project's goals.
Core aims and proposals:
Expanding Presidential Power: Project 2025 advocates for a stronger executive branch and suggests ways to consolidate presidential authority over federal agencies, including independent ones.
Conservative Policy Agenda: The plan promotes conservative policy recommendations on a wide range of issues, including:
Abortion and reproductive rights: Reversing access to abortion and related healthcare services.
Immigration: Strengthening border security, increasing deportations, and potentially curtailing legal immigration pathways.
LGBTQ+ rights: Rolling back protections and potentially promoting policies that discriminate against LGBTQ+ individuals.
Environmental regulations: Deregulating industries and potentially weakening environmental protections.
Social welfare programs: Cutting or restructuring programs like food assistance and potentially introducing or reinstating work requirements.
Education: Promoting school choice, reducing federal funding for public education, and potentially eliminating the Department of Education.
Federal workforce: Restructuring the civil service and making it easier to fire and replace federal employees with political appointees.
